How to Remove a Tree Stump

1) Dig a small hole next to the stump and fill it with water. Use your hands to break up the surface of the stump until it begins to sink. Once it's submerged, use a shovel or spade to dig around the stump until it pops out of the ground.

2) Make an ice bucket out of some plastic or metal and place it over the top of the stump. Add cold water and wait about an hour, until all of the liquid has drained away. Remove the ice bucket and repeat steps 1-3 on the other side of the stump.

3) Cut off a length of sturdy rebar or pipe and place it over the top of the stump. Drive a stake into one end of the rebar and use another stake to hold down one end of a rope while you pull on the other end. The rebar should slowly pop out of the ground around the circumference of the stump.
